This is a collaborative creation. I rough-carved the dragon on a Paul Reed Smith factory blank (Dana Bourgeois was working for PRS and asked me to make a proto-type carved body). PRS didn't go for it, so I got the body back. I finished the carving, then passed the body on to the luthier Carter Ruff. He made the neck, did the inlay (my design), and assembled the guitar. Then David Hunt installed the electronics. The PRS-style body is flame-figured maple laminated to mahogany. It has a custom bolt neck of curly maple. The head is ebony with mother-of-pearl inlay. The double pickups are humbuckers, with a whammy bar. The guitar has been getting lots of playing time in Gallery Muir, and the bugs have been tweaked out. We are asking $2000 for it. |
